Letters From Wolf Street

NOMINATION for the Polish Film Awards ORŁY in the Best Documentary Film category.

A street in central Warsaw. Arjun, who emigrated here a decade ago from India, still struggles with feelings of alienation. Wilcza Street doesn’t make his task easy. Seeking to assimilate, the director begins filming his neighbors, which often puts their relationships to the test. Despite this, Arjun continues to devise new ways to bridge their two worlds.

With the help of Mo, a friend from college, also an immigrant and a filmmaker, Arjun uncovers the secrets of the street, from which a network of fascinating characters emerges. The author discovers that he has more in common with them than he might think – they all live between the past and the present, their imagined homeland and their real one. The street connects them like an invisible thread, offering solace in the face of the melancholy of everyday life.

From the little over a kilometer-long Wilcza Street, an image of contemporary Europe emerges – a kaleidoscope of contradictions and fears. The film shatters stereotypes, attempting to break down the fictional boundaries between neighbors. Poland, often perceived as homogenous, hostile, and right-wing, is given a chance to look at itself in the mirror, where the immigrant director paints an intimate portrait of his new country with humor and perspective.

The film’s world premiere took place at the 75th Berlin International Film Festival (Berlinale) in the Panorama section. To date, the film has been selected for nearly 60 festivals worldwide, winning numerous prestigious awards.
